BOTHELL, Wash. — Bothell Police arrested a suspect in connection with last week’s fire at the Fred Meyer near Thrasher’s Corner shortly after 7 a.m. this morning.
The suspect faces a first-degree arson charge. Police also said the suspect was found in a stolen vehicle at the time of the arrest.
“This arrest was the result of coordinated work between our Investigations Unit and our Community Crime Reduction Team (CCRT) with support from our K9 and Drone teams,” Bothell Police said in a news release Thursday morning.
The investigation into the Fred Meyer fire continues.
How the Bothell Fred Meyer fire started
On Aug. 4 at 1:43 p.m., Bothell fire crews were dispatched to Fred Meyer after patrons reported seeing flames and smoke in the building, according to the Bothell Fire Department.
Erin Gowenlock, a spokesperson for the City of Bothell, told KIRO Newsradio the fire originated inside the store near the garden center.
The store’s fire alarm and sprinkler systems activated, and employees and customers safely evacuated. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters extinguished the fire.
“There was smoke throughout the building, and water was concentrated in and around the affected area,” Gowenlock stated.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No nearby businesses were affected.
