Boop! ORCA card fans name its new mascot

Hot on the heels of Buoy, the latest mascot in Seattle, the ORCA card has announced a name for its new mascot.

In April, the ORCA card social channels invited users to subscribe to the ORCA newsletter and participate in a vote to name its new mascot.

Nearly 700 people voted and Boop was the clear winner.

Boop, named after the sound the ORCA card reader makes when the card is tapped, was introduced Friday.

According to the ORCA website, Boop “has always loved exploring the beautiful waters around Seattle and learning about the creatures that call it home. One day, while out swimming in the Puget Sound, Boop was motivated to help people move around the city with ease. As a transit coordinator for the local pod, Boop was especially good at figuring out fares, schedules, and transfers.”

Boop would show up at bus stops, train stations and ferry terminals, where the orca would offer tips to travelers on the best routes and how to navigate the city.

Boop’s “hard work and dedication” has “earned the young orca a special place in the hearts of Seattleites.”
