SEATTLE, Wash. — Boeing announced Friday that it had been awarded a $14.7 billion contract from Lockheed Martin to build missiles for the U.S. military.
According to a Boeing press release, the company will work to triple production of a high-powered missile used to track and shoot down “hostile aircraft,” as well as hypersonic, ballistic, and cruise missiles.
The contract is expected to last seven years and create “hundreds” of manufacturing jobs in Huntsville, Alabama.
This is not the first time Boeing has made weapons for the military.
According to the Government Transparency Project, Boeing is the second-largest defense contractor in the country, having received over $68 billion to make U.S. government work on “defense, space, and tanker” projects.
