SEATTLE — The Bite of Seattle shooting suspect has been released on electronic home monitoring while the teen awaits trial.
A judge ruled on the decision Wednesday morning.
Last month, the 15-year-old’s attorneys requested he be allowed to go home, but the judge said no.
Prosecutors said the teen is a threat to the community since he was willing to shoot a gun into a crowded festival.
According to Seattle police, the teen is one of at least four suspects involved in the mass shooting.
One of the other suspects died during the July shootout, and the police department says they are looking into two persons of interest.
In the teen’s last court appearance, ballistic evidence confirmed the 15-year-old’s gun was likely not a match for the bullets that killed three people and injured four.
That is why he hasn’t been charged with murder, but instead with assault with a firearm enhancement and unlawful possession of a firearm.
However, the latest court documents state the suspect met with 11 other people before going to the festival and took pictures of almost a dozen guns in the group’s possession.
The documents also state the group had an Instagram chat that was active before and after the shooting that shows knowledge of the shooting outcomes.
Prosecutors say there were messages about the 15-year-old being arrested, the death of their friend who was also considered a suspect, and knowing they needed to make a new chat to conceal or minimize leaked information.
The suspect’s attorneys say he has been applauded for good behavior while in jail and is continuing his high school classes so he doesn’t fall behind, which is why they asked for him to be released on electronic home monitoring.
Two attendees of the event died in the shooting. Four others, including a 2-year-old boy, were hurt.
