Bill Nye announces premiere of new show ‘The End is Nye’

Streaming-network Peacock announced a new series starring Bill Nye, “The End is Nye,” a look at global disasters.

The show will send Nye into natural and unnatural disasters, where he will use science to explain how people can survive, mitigate and possibly prevent the disasters.

Set to premiere on Thursday, Aug. 25, Peacock released the first piece of artwork for the show on Friday.

Using the tagline, “When the world ends, his job begins,” the artwork shows Nye adjusting his trademark bowtie on a flooded street, in front of a tornado and meteors.

“Right now our world is a very scary place, and yet full of opportunities to make life better for all of us— for everyone on Earth,” Nye said in a statement provided to KIRO 7. “Speaking of Earth, the big idea behind The End Is Nye is that for the first time in the history of our planet, we humans can control our fate. We can see the potential for these overwhelming disasters, and we have the means to avoid them. With science, we can change the world.”

Nye, who started his career as an engineer for Boeing in Seattle, moved on to performing science sketches on the Seattle show “Almost Live!”

Next Nye pitched a “Mr. Wizard”-style show to KCTS in Seattle, where “Bill Nye the Science Guy” was born, running for six seasons and over 100 episodes.

“Bill Nye the Science Guy” would be nominated for 23 Emmy Awards, winning 19.

“The End is Nye” is produced by Brannon Braga, Bill Nye and Seth McFarlane.
