SEATTLE — The Seattle Department of Transportation will create protected bike lanes in the Delridge neighborhood where some illegal ecology blocks were placed by a business to prevent those living in their cars and recreational vehicles from parking.
According to a report from The Seattle Times, the blocks were placed on Southwest Andover Street in mid-June following the clearing of an RV encampment.
SDOT said the concrete blocks were removed by the business after a warning notice was delivered for lack of an approved street permit.
During the week of Aug. 8, transportation crews paved Southwest Andover Street, between 26th Avenue Southwest and 28th Avenue South, which created additional space for the new bike lanes.
The bike lane will connect the neighborhood freeway on 26th Ave. SW to the bike lanes on Southwest Avalon Way.
That work is expected to be completed this fall, officials said.
While the project is being developed, drivers will see temporary no-parking signs, which will restrict parking during construction hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays. Construction work could happen on the weekends as well and work hours will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
