Covington hit-and-run: Bicyclist killed; deputies search for driver

COVINGTON, Wash. — A bicyclist who was struck Wednesday evening by a hit-and-run driver in Covington has died, deputies say.

The hit-and-run happened in the 18200 block of Southeast Wax Road at about 5:30 p.m.

Investigators said the bicyclist was hit from behind by the driver.

According to deputies, the suspect continued driving while dragging the bike.

The bicycle was found near the corner of 193rd Avenue and Southeast and Southeast 242nd Place.

Deputies said the bicyclist, a 50-year-old man, died while he was on the way for the airlift to Harborview Medical Center.

The bicyclist has been identified as Michael Russell.

Deputies said the driver fled the scene.

They believe the driver may have been in a 2000-2002 Chevy Cavalier. The color is unknown but investigators believe the front may have extensive front end damage.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to call 911 or the King County Sheriff's Office at 206-296-3311 or 911.
