Bellevue water main break puts neighborhood on days-long boil notice

BELLEVUE, Wash. — A broken water main has a Bellevue neighborhood on a boil water notice for least the next couple days.

The water main burst early Friday morning at Southeast 10th and 107th Avenue Southeast. Hours later, the city issued the boil water notice, with water quality testing and results expected within the next two to three days.

The affected area is largely residential, but does also include a handful of businesses as well.

“I saw two police cars over here they blocked the traffic, all the cars were making a U-turn – and I saw a fire truck over here,” neighbor Tony Leung said.

He may have been one of the first Bellevue residents to see the water main break on one of Bellevue’s busiest roads.

He spoke to KIRO 7 near the intersection of Bellevue Way at Southeast 10th Street, which was closed for most of Friday morning as crews tried to unearth the broken water main for repairs. Crews tore up the road and tore into the ground to get and the underground leak.

Leung lives right nearby and had to see the work for himself this morning.”

Michaelene Fowler is the Public Information Officer for Bellevue, and says the work will impact some Bellevue residents.

“This is a significant area that we are talking about,” he told us. “Around 1:30 this morning we received a call that there was not water and there was a water main break, crews came out checked it and were able to put in a fix in place to make sure residents in this area had water.”

Bellevue has put up a map of the area that is impacted by this break and it Fowler said it does encompass a large area affecting hundreds of people.

The utility crews spoke to us on site also and said that the repairs would be done by the end of the day Friday, maybe sooner.
