Around the Sound: Ski South Lake Union

What if you were able to experience all aspects of a full day of skiing, from the chairlift, and snow, and then hanging out by the fireplace without actually heading to one of our mountains? Ski SLU has you covered.

In the heart of downtown Seattle, you’ll find a cozy fireplace, a ski lift, and snowflakes. They may not be real, but South Lake Union sure has a way of making all elements of a ski trip feel real.

You can start off at Van Vorst plaza, with the giant “let it snow” sign and giant snowflakes. People who work nearby appreciate the festive setup.

“It’s been great it’s like a winter wonderland out here it’s really festive getting me into the season,” said Jessica Davis.

There are nostalgic touches like the Pink Elephant Car Wash sign right next to the SLU Summit where you find the ski lift and chalet, the perfect photo op for yourself, or maybe even your furry friend.

“It’s nice last week, we got a dusting of snow, it made it look like an alpine village out here, it was kinda cool to see,” said Jim Peterson.

Ski SLU has three locations: the Van Vorst Plaza, Nitro Plaza, and the Day 1 Playfield right next to the Amazon Spheres.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out the winter wonderland experience, lace up those boots and head to downtown Seattle! You have until Friday evening to see the displays… and the best part? No snow tires are necessary!
