Around the Sound: Seattle Museum Month

SEATTLE — It’s Seattle Museum Month! If you stay at participating hotels, you can get 50% off admission to a variety of museums.

“You know, people come and say, ‘I remember that, but I didn’t know about that,’ and they suddenly have this new picture on this community we call home,” said Leonard Garfield, executive director of MOHAI.

Rediscover Seattle, or learn new surprises! It doesn’t matter if you’re a local or a tourist, Seattle Museum Month is for everyone.

“It’s good for folks that are in town to do something more than just the standard local spots. Again, it just focuses on some of our history, and for local people as well,” said Kenya Leger with Seattle Collection Hyatt Hotels. “A lot of people who live in the area don’t know about some of the things that make Seattle a great place to live in, so it’s nice to point people in those directions.”

Seattle Museum Month runs through the end of February. There are 26 museums to choose from, everything from MoPOP and the Museum of Flight, to the aquarium and even Woodland Park Zoo!

“I like to tell people that if you want to visit Seattle and really know where you are, start your visit at MOHAI because we’re all about the Seattle story,” said Garfield. “This community has had a rich history for thousands of years and is making history today, and we tell that history at MOHAI.”

There are over 50 participating downtown hotels to choose from. If you have guests, visiting the museum is a great alternative to local hotspots crowded with tourists.

“It’s been really exciting because you wouldn’t think of Seattle in February to be the ideal time to visit, but we had lots of business from all over the country, around the world who are coming to Seattle,” said Garfield. “They’re visiting MOHAI, learning our history and then they’re going out and discovering other museums.”

Half the month is gone and you have less than two weeks to take advantage of this offer! Head to SeattleMuseumMonth.com and plan your staycation with a dose of history and fun this weekend.
