JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD, Wash. — JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD, Wash. — An Army private first class will spend two years in prison after he was convicted of recording the assault of an unconscious woman by three other men in 2024.

Pfc. Kallon K. Curiel, 20, was tried through a court-martial under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, the legal system governing members of the U.S. military, rather than in Washington state court. He was convicted at JBLM, where he will serve his prison time, according to a statement the military base sent to KIRO 7.

Curiel was convicted Oct. 8 of indecent recording, but the court found he did not directly participate in the assault and acquitted him of the sexual assault and abusive sexual contact charges he faced.

Curiel, a Multiple Launch Rocket System crew member assigned to the 1st Battalion, 94th Field Artillery, 17th Field Artillery Brigade, was sentenced to 24 months in prison. He will also lose his pay and allowances, be reduced to the Army’s lowest enlisted rank, and receive a bad-conduct discharge, the base told KIRO 7.

He will serve his sentence at the Northwestern Joint Regional Correctional Facility at JBLM and will be required to register as a sex offender after his release.

The sexual assault allegations involving Curiel and three other soldiers were first reported by Stars and Stripes in August 2025. The four soldiers were charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault of the same person at JBLM on Oct. 27, 2024.

The paper later reported that the victim of the assault was a female ROTC student who subsequently became an Army officer. The Army Office of Special Trial Counsel told the publication the alleged assaults happened at the same time and place with all four soldiers present.

In its coverage of the case against another soldier, Stars and Stripes reported that Pvt. Deron J. Gordon testified that the group had been drinking in a barracks room and that the ROTC student passed out in a bedroom and was unconscious when the group of men assaulted her.

The paper reported that Army prosecutors said soldiers recorded themselves having sex with the unconscious woman and posted images on Snapchat.

Gordon pleaded guilty in September 2025 to sexual assault, abusive sexual contact, and his role in indecent recording. He was sentenced to 75 months in prison.

Spc. Jadon Bosarge pleaded guilty the following month to sexually assaulting the victim while she was unconscious and was sentenced to 60 months in prison. Both Gordon and Bosarge are serving their sentences at the Northwestern Joint Regional Correctional Facility.

The fourth soldier charged in the case, Cpl. Pedro Angel Ruiz, was acquitted of all charges in May.
