Armed man barricades himself in Renton home, fires shot at officers before starting fire, police say

RENTON, Wash. — A armed man barricaded himself in a Renton home, fired shots at police and started a fire early Monday, officials said.

Police responded around 3:14 a.m. for reports of a barricaded subject with a gun. Family members told police that a man in the family went to an upstairs bedroom with a gun.

When they heard gunshots, the family called 911. Police quickly evacuated the house and several homes nearby.

Officers also said the man began actively shooting at police from the house.

Shortly after, police heard an alarm coming from the house and saw smoke coming from the upstairs.

Police believe the man started a fire on the second floor which then spread quickly throughout the house.

The subject later exited the house and was taken into custody without incident. No one was injured.

Police said the man will be charged with arson and numerous counts of first-degree assault for shooting at officers.
