Apolo Ohno to be inducted into U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Hall of Fame

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado — Former short track speedskater and Federal Way native Apolo Ohno will be inducted into the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Hall of Fame, committee members announced Monday.

Ohno is an eight-time medalist and the most decorated American Olympian at the Winter Olympics.

The 2019 Hall of Fame class will be honored at an awards dinner Nov. 1 at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

"Honored and humbled. The lessons learned from this incredible journey keep giving!  Teamwork 100%," Ohno wrote in a tweet.

Joining Ohno in the class are Candace Cable, Lisa Leslie, Nastia Liukin, Misty May-Treanor, Apolo Anton Ohno, Erin Popovich, Dara Torres, Chris Waddell, the 1998 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team, John Carlos, Tommie Smith, Ron O'Brien and Tim Nugent.

"It's an honor to welcome the class of 2019 into this prestigious and celebrated honor roll. We thank them for their impact on sport and society, and for continuing to inspire the next generation of athletes and fans," USOPC CEO Sarah Hirshland wrote in a news release.
