SEATTLE, Wash. — Activists are planning events across Washington on Sunday as part of a statewide effort calling for a moratorium on new data center construction.
Washington AI Resistance and allied groups said more than 20 events were planned for Oct. 4 as part of a statewide Day of Action.
According to organizers, events were scheduled in communities including Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia, Mountlake Terrace, Bainbridge Island, Spokane, Wenatchee, Walla Walla and Moses Lake.
Four events were planned in Seattle, including gatherings at the John Lewis Memorial Bridge, on Fauntleroy Way Southwest, in Beacon Hill, and at the University of Washington.
Organizers are calling on the state to pause the construction of new data centers until rules are developed that address costs to residents, communities, and the environment.
