SEATTLE — Rough weather on Sunday took an icy turn at night. Hail mixed with sleet and snow turned made roads slick and dangerous.
This comes after a windy, rainy day that knocked down several trees.
All of the hail after dark led to heartache on the freeway.
This is no way to spend one’s 23rd birthday. But it is how Silvana Camino and mother, Rosalva, are spending hers, sitting in their car on I-405 after they say this vehicle came out of nowhere and hit them.

“I was driving, of course, right?” said Rosalva Camino, Bellevue. “And suddenly my daughter said, ‘Oh, my gosh.’ "
“Because I saw a car and it was like driving this way and it just T-boned us,” said Silvana. ‘And she said ‘hold on.’ And we just hit this side really bad.”
The collision happened as weather systems seemed to be colliding, too. Rain gave way to sleet, snow and hail. KIRO 7 came upon a rollover crash just after 7:30 p.m. Sunday, also on I-405.
No one seemed to be severely injured in either case.
For much of the day, rain was the main issue and wind.
The gusts proved too much for a tree in Everett. The full measure of it seemed to crash into a house. The people inside were too upset even to talk about it, their house probably uninhabitable for now.
A homeowner some 40 miles to the south, in Des Moines, sent us a video of a tree falling there, too. But it didn’t do much damage as it came down.
The violent spring weather attracted many people to the Mukilteo Lighthouse Park.
“It was sleeting so hard at one point, it was hard to drive though,” said Colin Jenkel, Bellevue. “Yeah, it was getting pretty heavy.”
It may have been a preview of what would happen once night fell.
“It was really hard,” said Rosalva Camino.
She said they were going to the hospital because both of them have minor injuries.
Of course, incredibly, almost as soon as it started, it was over. So really, a rough night on the roads at least for a time.
