Amtrak adds second round-trip to Vancouver BC, restoring service to pre-pandemic levels

SEATTLE — Starting Monday, Amtrak passengers will see its Cascades service return to pre-pandemic levels.

Service to Vancouver, B.C. was suspended in May 2020 due to COVID-19 international border restrictions.

Prior to the pandemic, more than 750,000 riders used the route that connects Oregon, Washington and British Columbia each year.

Amtrak restored one of two daily round trips between Seattle and Vancouver last September.

On Monday, Amtrak will restart a second round trip to Vancouver, starting in Portland with a stop in Seattle.

“With more people now traveling, we are thrilled to double the daily roundtrips between Seattle and Vancouver, BC. By adding staffing and equipment to the region, we can once again offer customers a direct connection between Portland and Canada,” said Amtrak CEO Stephen Gardner.

This fall, Amtrak will also increase the number of daily trips between Seattle and Portland from four to six.

The Amtrak Cascades service is jointly sponsored and funded by the states of Washington and Oregon.
