SEATTLE — Amazon is now offering customers the option to receive deliveries in their cars.
Prime members with a compatible 2015 or newer Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac or Volvo can now use Amazon Key -- the service that allows a delivery person to leave a package inside your home without a key -- to have packages delivered inside their vehicle.
Deliveries can be made in vehicles parked at home, work or other public space -- no home or parking garages, and you have to be within two blocks of the delivery address.
In-car delivery is free for Prime users in 37 U.S. cities. Users download the Amazon Key App and link their car. Amazon says no additional hardware or devices are needed.
After customers have set up the app and the delivery location has been registered, they can shop on Amazon.com and select the "In-Car" delivery option at checkout.

Delivery is available on millions of items and works with same day, two-day and standard shipping.
On delivery day, the app lets customers check if they've parked within range of the delivery location, and then gives notifications with the expected 4-hour delivery window.
Amazon says it verifies the driver is at the right location with the right package through an encrypted authentication process.
Once this process is successfully completed, the car is then unlocked. The driver will put the package in your trunk or back seat. Customers receive a notification via the Amazon Key App after the delivery is completed and the vehicle is relocked.
Amazon says delivery drivers must go through a background check.
