EVERETT, Wash. -- After 42 West Highland Terriers were rescued from a trailer on Monday, we know some of them are being cared for at the Everett Animal Shelter.
Marysville Police say the dogs, ranging from four weeks old to four years old, were found in “extreme” breeding-hoarding conditions, some stacked in kennels and even in a storage tub.
Officers say many of the dogs were matted, covered in feces, soaked in urine, and some showed signs of medical distress.
They were taken to the Everett Animal Shelter to undergo medical evaluations, vaccinations, and microchipping.
Marysville Police say they have recommended 42 counts of animal cruelty in the second degree but have not revealed the identity of the person or group who kept the dogs inside the trailer.
“We don’t know what their outcome is going to be at this time. Any inquiries should go to the city of Marysville,” said Leslie Wall, Assistant Animal Services Manager for the Everett Animal Shelter.
Wall would not say if or when these Westies would be available for adoption, only that this is an ongoing investigation.
As volunteers and staff continue to care for the Westies, the Everett Animal Shelter is holding an adoption event this weekend, where fees are waived for select cats and dogs.
The adoption event runs this Saturday and Sunday from 2- 5 p.m.
