1 injured in crash on SR 97 in Kittitas County

One person was injured in a two-car crash on State Route 97, about 5 miles south of Blewett Pass, Washington State Patrol Trooper John Bryant said.

The crashed happened about 10:25 p.m. Saturday, blocking the road in both directions.

A 23-year-old man from Yakima was driving southbound, tried to pass traffic and lost control, striking a vehicle in the northbound lane, Bryant said.

He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, troopers said.

A 74-year-old driver and his passenger in the northbound lane were injured but were not taken to the hospital, troopers said.

After their initial investigation, troopers said the cause of the crash was unsafe passing.
