1 dead after shooting on transit bus in Everett

EVERETT, Wash. — A man in his 20s was taken into custody after an argument led to a fatal shooting on a transit bus Sunday night in Everett.

Police were called at about 8:10 p.m. to a report of gunfire on a bus in the 7700 block of Evergreen Way.

Two men riding on a southbound Community Transit bus on the highway got into an argument and a fight, which led to one man shooting the other, Everett police said.

Officers who arrived at the scene attempted lifesaving measures, but the victim died at the scene, police said.

The shooting suspect surrendered peacefully and was arrested. He said he feared for his life after the other passenger punched him in the face.

Other people on the bus were not injured.

The southbound lanes were shut down for the shooting but later reopened.

The investigation remains ongoing.
