He's accused of trying to kill a 55-year-old man on March 20,  near the 1700 block of SW 98th Street in Seattle's White Center neighborhood.

"Earlier that day was riding along with the victim. Had him drive down a side road in White Center (between 17th and 18th streets) - kind of an ally and then stabbed him multiple times, and stabbed his throat. He was trying to kill him. That day we thought the victim was going to die," said Ryan Abbott, of the King County Sheriff's Office.

Abbott said the suspect, Varela, ran away from the car and the victim was able to drive a short distance away before crashing into this telephone pole nearby.

The victim managed to honk and flag someone down for help.

Court documents say the victim could only moan, and that his throat was “gaping open.”

The victim also had wounds to his face, nose, head, both arms, and right hip.

The alleged motive? The victim gave the suspect's girlfriend a ride earlier in the day, according to the sheriff's office.

"He just snapped," Abbot said. "That's what worries us, we don't know what he's capable of. And we need to find him and get him behind bars before he does this to someone else," he said.

Abbott said the suspect is likely on the run.

"Just let the public know, if they see him, don't try to contact him. Call 911 right away," Abbott said.

The bail set for Varela, is $1 million - an amount you'd typically see for a murder charge.

The sheriff's office said Varela could be trying to get to eastern Washington, California, or Texas -- where the sheriff's office says they believe the suspect has contacts.

Investigators also believe Varela did not have a vehicle and you're warned to not pick up hitchhikers.
