Police say teens planted drugs in classmate's backpack

SAMMAMISH, Wash. — Police say an Issaquah 14-year-old almost got kicked out of Skyline High School after classmates planted drugs in her backpack.

Lexi Nault was called to the principal's office Jan. 30; a police officer was there too. After having her Miranda Rights read, they searched Nault for drugs. In the outside pocket of her backpack they pulled out two blue pills. Nault was shocked.

"I started crying, I didn't know what to do," said Nault.

The school called her mother.

"My daughter does not do drugs. She gets straight A's in school" said Amber Geary, Nault's mother.

Nault had a recent falling out with one of her friends and figured out she must have been set up. They asked the school to review surveillance video. According to Sgt. Cindi West with the King County Sheriff's Office, the video showed one of the girls distract Nault in the lunchroom while the other one put the drugs in Nault's backpack.

The pills turned out to be Adderall, a drug used to treat Attention Deficit Disorder.

"There's certainly some harassment going on here and it's definitely a crime," said West. The Issaquah School District immediately expelled the two teens, also freshmen.

"These girls are so young and are hurting that bad, to hurt somebody else and bring them down. That would have destroyed my daughter's whole world, “said Geary.

Detectives investigated the crime, but Nault and her mother decided they wanted the discipline handled by the school.

"They were expelled --  it's punishment enough. It happened at school," said Geary.

Nault learned a lesson.

"Be careful who you're friends with," said Nault.

The King County Sheriff's Office, which operates the Sammamish Police Department, is keeping the police report. If the teens get in more trouble, they can forward the case to the prosecutor's office.
