Bothell, Wash — A Bothell police detective has been accused of having sex with a student. The allegations stem from 2010, when the detective was working as a school resource officer at Bothell High School.
Det. Dione Thompson has been charged with two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor.
According to court documents, the transgender student, who identified as female at the time, said he was 17 and 18 years old during the relationship. He said he was invited to move in with Det. Thompson and continued the sexual relationship, which spanned from the summer of 2010 to February of 2011.
The student alleges the two had encounters in a marked police car at the Bothell King County Library, among other places.
The Bothell Police Department said Thompson has been active with the department for 16 years, and she was a school resource officer for 6 or 7 years until she became a detective.
She has no prior discipline record, and these allegations were a surprise to the department.
She's now on paid, administrative leave pending the investigation.
The Northshore School District sent KIRO 7 this statement: “We have been notified that charges have been filed against a Bothell police detective who was assigned to Bothell High School as a school resource officer (SRO) in 2010.
