SR 203 partially closed after collapse from landslide

WSDOT closed a stretch of southbound State Route 203 near Duvall to one alternating lane Tuesday afternoon, after a slow landslide caused parts of the asphalt to collapse, causing large jagged cracks to drop sections of the road several inches.

Drivers on SR 203 will be stopped by flaggers to alternate north and southbound traffic, until the road can be repaired. WSDOT Geo-technicians will survey the damage Wednesday, and determine a timeline for repairs, according to WSDOT spokesman Joe Calabro.

About 14,000 vehicles use the major artery daily, but commuters like Cheri Nelson said the road surface had become a major hazard on Tuesday.

"I hit the cracks with my truck and I thought I actually ran something over," she said.

“Thousands of trucks drive this road every day, and closing this to one lane is really a big deal, Nelson said. We’re looking at probably 30 or 40 minutes just waiting just to get through, that’s what traffic could be like.”

Drivers should expect delays, as there is no estimated time for when the road will fully reopen.

SR 203 runs through the Snoqualmie River Valley, connecting Monroe, Duvall, Carnation and Fall City.

Geotechs visited the slide Wednesday and will spend the next several days to figure out how the slide is moving.
