Seattle Thunderbirds win WHL Championship with 3-1 win over Winnipeg ICE

KENT, Wash. — The Seattle Thunderbirds defeated the Winnipeg ICE 3-1 in Game 5 of their WHL Championship Series on Friday at the ShoWare Center in Kent.

According to the team’s website, the win gives the Thunderbirds their second league title and first since 2017.

With the Thunderbirds winning the series four games to one, they now move on to play in the Memorial Cup Tournament next weekend in Kamloops, B.C.

The team will play the winner of the Ontario Hockey League, which will be either Peterborough or London. Peterborough currently leads that series 3-2 with Game 6 taking place Sunday.

The Thunderbirds finished this year’s WHL playoffs with a 9-1 record at home.
