Police responded just before 5 p.m. Friday to a call of shots fired on Monroe Street and upon arrival discovered 43-year-old Joanie Webb dead in her home, WTTV reported.

Neighbors told the TV station that they believe one of the bullets ricocheted off the neighboring home and struck Webb while she waited on her living room couch for her ride to bingo.

“It could have been pretty much anyone on this block,” neighbor Billy Boykins told WTHR, confirming that Webb had twice defeated cancer before Friday’s shooting.

“Beat it twice, and this is the receiving that she gets,” Boykins added.

According to police, 19-year-old Darnzell Drummer was arrested Tuesday in connection with the shooting death. Although Drummer has not yet been formally charged, preliminary charges against him include murder, aggravated battery and criminal recklessness, WTTV reported.

Police also confirmed that the women were not the intended targets of the shooting, which they characterized as a “senseless act of violence,” the TV station reported.
