Protests continue in Seattle for 10th consecutive day

SEATTLE — Thousands of protesters gathered throughout Seattle Sunday, marking the 10th straight day of demonstrations demanding systemic change following the death of George Floyd while in Minneapolis police custody.

Many of the demonstrations remained peaceful holding true to the message that so many protesters continue to preach.

However, a protest outside of the Seattle Police Department’s East Precinct turned violent when police said a man drove his car into a crowd and shot someone.

Police said the victim, a man in his mid to late 20′s was transported to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition. The suspect was arrested and police said they recovered the gun.

The demonstrations outside of the East Precinct also escalated Saturday night.

The Seattle Police Department said six officers were injured when protesters began throwing rocks, bottles and “improvised explosives”

In response, police said they used blast balls and pepper spray to temporarily disperse the crowd. Police said CS gas was not used during that confrontation.

While the protests outside of the East Precinct have escalated in recent days, other demonstrations have remained calm.

Thousands of people marched through the Othello neighborhood in South Seattle marking one of the largest demonstrations seen thus far.

The demonstration was highlighted by Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan on Sunday night for its peaceful tone.
