Man suspected of fatally stabbing sister near Gig Harbor, deputies say

GIG HARBOR, Wash. — Detectives are investigating after a woman was fatally stabbed Wednesday night near Gig Harbor, deputies say.

After 5 p.m., authorities responded to a report of a stabbing at a home on 73rd Avenue Northwest in the Artondale area.

Investigators said the caller told dispatchers a man with a history of mental illness stabbed his sister and fled the scene.

As deputies were on their way to the scene, the suspect called 911 and reported the stabbing. He was about two blocks from the scene and he remained on the phone with dispatch until deputies arrived at the home.

Deputies found the 23-year-old woman with critical injuries. She was taken to a hospital but later died after she arrived.

The 19-year-old brother was located and taken into custody. He was booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of murder.

The investigation remains ongoing.
