WHITE CENTER, Wash. — Three rounds of copper wire thefts have left a White Center neighborhood in the dark.
Seattle City Light says the most recent theft occurred late Thursday night and affected six street lights. In all, power to 23 streetlights has been cut since August.
Officials said thieves not only took the wires in the streetlights but also opened the hatch covers in the neighborhood.
Due to the complexity of the repairs needed, officials said it could be weeks before they're back on.
A streetlight repair tracker shows the cluster of outages in the area might not be fixed for at least 45 days.
Officials said after a period of several years with few copper wire thefts, they are seeing a surge.
About 4 miles down south, Mount Rainier High School had to cancel their homecoming game for Friday night because of copper wire thefts.
