Several people shot after Auburn street racing incident

AUBURN, Wash. — An illegal street racing event in Auburn led to multiple people getting shot, said the Auburn Police Department.

Police received a report of a shooting in the 2500 block of B Street Northwest around 2:15 a.m. on Saturday. When police got there, they found out a fight had broken out at a street race and ended with three men and one teen girl being shot. They are all in serious but stable condition.

There are no suspects but detectives believe there were multiple shooters. Anyone with information is asked to call the Auburn PD Tip Line at 253-288-7403. Detectives are also looking for photos or videos that might help.

Auburn Mayor Nancy Backus is appalled about the shooting and believes this sort of violence has no place in the Puget Sound.

“I’m angry. I’m sad. And we need to do something about this,” Mayor Backus said. “Not in Auburn. Not anywhere.”

Mayor Backus believes this sort of gun violence, along with street racing, can pose a serious threat to public safety and it needs to be addressed.

“What about the innocent person that’s driving down that street or a side street and comes across this? They can be innocent victims,” she said. “This does not need to keep happening. People are dying. People are being injured and we need it to stop.”

She and other city leaders plan to talk about the gun violence issue next week as she believes a plan of action is needed.

“It’s my responsibility. It’s a community responsibility,” Mayor Backus said.
