The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife on Thursday announced that all salmon fishing will be closed for the Snohomish, Snoqualmie, and Skykomish Rivers upstream of the Wallace River starting Saturday and effective through Nov. 15.
In addition to the rule changes, officials said all salmon must be released except for marked hatchery coho on the Wallace and Skykomish rivers from the mouth of the Wallace River.
“In-season run size updates indicate that the Snohomish wild coho run is lower than the pre-season forecast. These measures are needed to protect future runs of coho by increasing chances wild spawner escapement goals are met,” Officials said online.
Officials said if the number of coho salmon improves, fisheries may be reopened.
