(3/18) Rain moving back in for the weekend

Mountain snow returns too

There are a few sprinkles and light rain showers around this evening and that will be the case into the late hours of this Friday night too, but more consistent rain is moving ashore shortly and rain will increase around the interior of Western Washington by midnight tonight. By Saturday morning, it’ll be soggy many places but already starting to break up into spotty showers across the coast and Olympic Peninsula, and by mid-morning the bulk of the rain will be done for the interior, including Puget Sound.

That said, there will still be some showers along with sunbreaks Saturday afternoon and we’ll also expect a Puget Sound Convergence Zone to kick up some enhanced rainfall in the area from near Seattle to Everett at times. Highs will be in the 40s.

In the mountains, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the north and south Cascades above 4,000 feet for 6-12 inches of snow from tonight through Saturday. This includes Paradise and Mount Baker. For Stevens Pass, there remains the possibility for heavy snow on Saturday if the convergence zone aligns properly so a 4-12 inch range is possible there. At Snoqualmie Pass, we’ll likely see periods of snow or a rain-snow mix and 2-4 inches of snow. Given the showery nature of snow, however, amounts could vary significantly from place to place. Travelers should check pass conditions before heading out this weekend.

Saturday night and much of Sunday will be overall drier, but still some spotty showers will be around along with some sunbreaks. In the mountains, there will be occasional snow showers. Highs will be around 50 in the lowlands.

Rain increases in the lowlands and mountain snow too Sunday evening into Monday as another weather system moves through. We’ll look ahead to some warmer days Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s before a slow cooling trend by late week. Rain chances look pretty minimal but there will be an outside chance of a shower on Tuesday and Wednesday.
