BOSTON — With rosters expanding to 28 today, Sept. 1, the Mariners have officially called up outfielder Lazaro Montes and left-handed pitcher Hoby Milner from the Tacoma Rainiers.
The 21-year-old Montes currently has a .249 batting average, with nearly 100 runs and 38 home runs. Montes is also second in home runs in the minor leagues, according to the Mariners.
Montes will make his MLB debut this afternoon, as the Mariners take on the Boston Red Sox at 3:45.
Hoby Milner, an MLB veteran who was picked up by the Mariners yesterday, Aug. 31, was also called up.
The 35-year-old was released by the Chicago Cubs Sunday, Aug. 30, after pitching in 38 games for them this season.
Milner racked up a 3.53 ERA, with 9 walks and 18 strikeouts, during his tenure with the Cubs.
In exchange for Montes and Milner, the Mariners marked Connor Joe and Nolan Kingham for assignment.
