Women 'stage nurse-in' at Goodwill after breastfeeding complaint

MCMINVILLE, Ore. — They are protesting after a cashier complained on Twitter about a mother breastfeeding inside the store in McMinville.

The employee also used the store's official account to say breastfeeding should be done in private.

"@KilleezMama Breastfeeding shouldb't be done out in public without covering your private parts. A blanket for a breastfeeding mo..." and "@KilleezMama There isn't a thing wrong with breastfeeding. breastfeeding is a natural thing, but it should be done in a private place."

From the cashier's personal account she tweeted, “So I totally had a woman come through my line today while she was breastfeeding her baby.  #OnlyAtGoodwill #SawHerNipple."

Fourty-six states, including Oregon, plus the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands have laws that specifically allow women to breastfeed in any public or private location.

A spokesman for the company shot down that stance yesterday.

"First, we're sorry. It does not represent what we think, what our policy is or what the law is,” said Bob Barsocchini with Goodwill Industries.

The cashier who posted the tweet on Tuesday has been suspended.
