Woman jogger attacked in Seward Park

SEATTLE — A woman told police she fought off a man trying to sexually assault her in Seattle's Seward Park.

She says she was attacked while running through a trail there—at around 6 p.m. Thursday night.

Seattle police say they are upping patrols in the area after the incident.

"I'm glad to see more police around,” said Hannah Haag, who was at the park that night.

"We just saw the cop cars racing in,” she said.

The woman told police that a man hit her over the head with a piece of wood.

That victim told police she was running along the trail in Seward Park when that man pinned her down and tried to sexually assault her.

She fought him off.

"I think it's an awful crime. I know that it's not the first time I've heard this kind of story,” said Claudia Groom, who was walking through Seward Park Tuesday.

"I've heard many times people being assaulted because of their damn cell phone,” she added.

So Claudia Groom doesn't take any chances in the park.

She keeps her cell phone in her pocket and always walks with a friend.

The victim told police the suspect is 5’ 6’’, with a slim build.

He has brown hair and wore blue jeans with a black hoodie.
