LAKE STEVENS, Wash. — A woman escaped from her burning Lake Stevens home early Saturday morning.

The fire broke out in Shawna Baugher’s home after midnight while she was sleeping on the other side of the house.

KIRO 7’s Stacy Sakamoto spoke with Baugher and said she was thankful to have survived the fire and that her 13-year-old son, Skyler, wasn’t home to see it. He was spending the night at his father’s house.

“I was just shocked, you know, these things always happen other people not like yourself,” Skyler Baugher said.

On Saturday afternoon, Shawna Baugher found her father’s pocket watch and another family heirloom had survived the fire.

“My great grandmother’s pearls, that my great grandfather strung together in the war, and he picked them out and had them strung together, and gave them to me,” said Baugher.

Baugher’s mother, Jo Anne Marshall, credits a neighbor who woke Baugher up by throwing rocks at her window.

“I tried to get to her door but the flames were too hot,” said next door neighbor Daniel Robb. “So I backed up and I just started picking up rocks from her front lawn and throwing them at her window.

KIRO 7 was also told Baugher’s cat fell on her chest, which also helped her wake up."
