SEATTLE — Seattle Police arrested a woman Sunday afternoon in downtown Seattle after witnesses say she robbed a restaurant and struggled with an employee over the money.

Around 3 p.m. Sunday, the chef inside Pita Bite said she was preparing food in the back -- when she saw the suspect come in and steal money from the tip jar and cash register.

The chef told KIRO 7 she tried to stop the thief, and they struggled over the money.

She tried to keep the suspect inside the store.

"I'm talking please, everybody help me -- help me,” said the chef, who asked KIRO 7 not to use her name.

The chef says the thief escaped, so the chef followed her outside.

That’s when Maverick Gibson, who witnessed it all, says he saw the thief hit the chef -- so he says he jumped in to help.

"People work hard for their stuff, you know what I mean, and for her to take something from that woman, you know what I mean, is wrong, really. I was just being a good citizen,” said Gibson.

KIRO 7 was there about to see the suspect arrested in the alley outside the restaurant.

"Please don't arrest me, I didn't do anything wrong,” the woman shouted -- as officers handcuffed her and put her in a squad car.
