Wisconsin-based F-16 fighter jet crashes in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula

MADISON, Wis. — An F-16 fighter jet has crashed in Michigan, authorities said early Wednesday.

According to WISC-TV and KWWL-TV, the incident occurred about 8 p.m. Tuesday in the state’s Upper Peninsula. One pilot, who was participating in a “routine training mission,” was aboard the jet from the Wisconsin Air National Guard’s 115th Fighter Wing when it crashed, officials said in a Facebook post.

“Emergency responders are on scene,” the 115th Fighter Wing, based at Truax Field Air National Guard Base in Madison, wrote in the post. “The cause of the crash, as well as the status of the pilot, are unknown at this time, and the incident is under investigation.”
