A man attempting to get away from law enforcement officials jumped from a bridge into a Florida river Friday night after losing control of a stolen van.
According to the Lee County (Florida) Sheriff’s Department, deputies attempted to pull over a van when the man driving the vehicle, identified as Bryan Gray, age 34, sped off, leading deputies on a chase.
Gray crashed the van into a barrier on the Edison Bridge in Fort Myers, Florida. Gray then stumbled from the van, went over to the bridge’s railing and climbed over.
He stood overlooking the Caloosahatchee River as police vehicles pulled up. As deputies got out of their cars, Gray turned toward the river and jumped.
According to the LCSD’s Facebook page, Gray was pulled from the water by a marine patrol unit then taken to a hospital for treatment.
“While he may not have earned a gold medal for his high dive, Gray did find himself in hot water,” the sheriff’s department said on its Facebook page.
