HARTFORD, Conn. — U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal suffered a broken femur during Saturday’s victory parade for the University of Connecticut men’s basketball team.
Blumenthal, 77, a Democrat from Connecticut who is serving his third term in the Senate, will undergo surgery on Sunday, Kathleen McWilliams, a spokesperson for the senator, told WTHN-TV.
Blumenthal suffered the injury after another person attending the parade fell onto the senator from behind, according to WVIT-TV.
“He will have routine surgery on Sunday and anticipates a full, strong recovery,” she said, according to the Hartford Courant.
The senator said someone was taking video of him when he fell, News12 Connecticut reported.
