Blumenthal, 77, a Democrat from Connecticut who is serving his third term in the Senate, will undergo surgery on Sunday, Kathleen McWilliams, a spokesperson for the senator, told WTHN-TV.

Blumenthal suffered the injury after another person attending the parade fell onto the senator from behind, according to WVIT-TV.

“He will have routine surgery on Sunday and anticipates a full, strong recovery,” she said, according to the Hartford Courant.

The senator said someone was taking video of him when he fell, News12 Connecticut reported.

In a telephone interview with the news outlet, Blumenthal said he was in good spirits.

The UConn men were celebrating the school’s fifth national men’s basketball title after defeating San Diego State 76-59 on Monday.
