Texas father accused of killing baby girl while sexually assaulting her

HOUSTON — A Houston man is facing a capital murder charge after deputies said his infant daughter died as he sexually assaulted her.

According to KTRK, Harris County sheriff’s deputies arrested 23-year-old Luis Luna on Monday, one week after his 9-month-old daughter, Savayah Mason, was pronounced dead at an area hospital. An autopsy later found that the child had died from asphyxiation while being sexually assaulted, WOAI reported.

Investigators later determined that Luna assaulted the girl and issued a warrant for his arrest last week, according to KTRK.

“Heartbreaking,” Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez tweeted following Luna’s arrest. “Worst type of cases. May this little angel rest in peace. Good job by our investigators and all involved.”
