GLENDALE, Ariz. — Robert Griffin III was quite a runner during his college days at Baylor University and his seven-year NFL career. On Saturday night, he showcased his sprinting skills once again.
Griffin, 32, working Saturday’s College Football Playoff semifinal for ESPN2, was on the field assisting with game coverage when he learned that his wife had gone into labor, USA Today reported.
An analyst was discussing strategy as No. 2 Michigan and No. 3 TCU battled late in the third quarter, but Griffin was on the phone getting the news about Grete Griffin.
“Really?” Griffin said into his cellphone.
“What are we doing?” analyst Cole Cublic asked, sounding confused.
“I gotta go!” Griffin answered.
“To the bathroom?” Cublic asked.
Griffin explained that his wife was in labor and his partners -- Cublic, A.Q. Shipley and Taylor Lewan -- cheered and hugged him before RGIII sprinted off the phone.
Griffin later posted that he caught a Southwest flight home, USA Today reported.
But it turned out the baby was not ready.
“Baby Girl must have known that Mommy and Daddy had never spent a New Year’s apart.” Griffin tweeted. “GOD KNEW where I needed to be.”
