Updated 3:43 p.m. May 23: At least two people were fatally shot and 12 others injured at a 90s themed family house party in South Jersey.

New Jersey State police said a 30-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were fatally shot. The other 12 people who were wounded were taken to hospitals. The extent of their injuries was unclear.

No arrests have been made.

“This despicable and cowardly act of gun violence only steels our commitment to ensuring New Jersey leads the nation in passing and enforcing strong and commonsense gun safety laws,” Gov. Phil Murphy said in a statement. “No community should ever experience what occurred last night in Fairfield.”

Original report: Authorities were called around 11:50 p.m. Saturday to a house party with more than 100 people attending, WPVI reported.

There are multiple victims although the exact number of those injured and dead has not been released, WPVI reported. Several people had been taken to hospitals.

New Jersey State Police called it a “fatal mass shooting event,” WCAU reported.

“It was hundreds of people, our neighbors, who were just getting together because it was the first really warm, nice night. There were a lot of parties and get-togethers throughout the community, and this was probably the biggest,” resident Melissa Helmbrecht told WCAU.

The reason for the shooting is unclear. No arrests have been made or suspect information released.
