Oscars 2021: Anthony Hopkins pays tribute to late Chadwick Boseman in new video

Hours after he won the award for best actor at the 2021 Academy Awards, Anthony Hopkins took to social media to pay tribute to fellow nominee Chadwick Boseman, who died last year.

According to Entertainment Weekly and Variety, the 83-year-old Hopkins, who did not attend the Oscars ceremony on Sunday, gave his acceptance speech early Monday in a video posted to Instagram.

“Good morning,” Hopkins, who won the award for his role for his performance in “The Father,” said in the video. “Here I am in my homeland in Wales, and at 83 years of age, I did not expect to get this award; I really didn’t. And I’m very grateful to the Academy, and thank you. And I want to pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who was taken from us far too early. And again, thank you all very much. I really did not expect this, so I feel very privileged and honored. Thank you.”

Many had considered Boseman, who was nominated in the same category for his role in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” the favorite to win the award, entertainment outlets reported.

Hopkins, who also earned the best actor award in 1991 for “The Silence of the Lambs,” is now the oldest actor to win an Oscar, according to Variety.
