Felix has earned the title of most decorated female Olympian in track and field after she won bronze in the 400-meter final, NBC News reported.
She tied Carl Lewis for the most decorated American in track and field, The New York Times reported.
Bahamas’ Shaunae Miller-Uibo won gold and the Dominican Republic’s Marileidy Paulino won silver.
The time separating Felix and Miller-Uibo was 1.10 seconds.
Felix’s 49.46 time was her second-fastest run ever and faster than her silver medal win in the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics, The New York Times reported.
A 400-meter race was what got Felix to the Olympics this year after she finished second at the U.S. track trials in Eugene, Oregon, in June.
This is Felix’s fifth Olympic Games.
The win also came two years after she survived a life-threatening pregnancy and gave birth to a daughter via emergency cesarean section when she was 32 weeks pregnant.
Felix’s daughter Camryn weighed only 3 pounds, 7 ounces when she was born on Nov. 28, 2018. She had to spend weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit.
Felix has one more race ahead of her at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She’s a member of the 4x400-meter relay, and the U.S. is favored in the competition.
If they win, it would be her 11th medal and she would surpass Lewis, NBC News reported.
