ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A 7-year-old New Mexico boy is recovering after he was shot in the head Wednesday at an Albuquerque skate park.

According to KOAT and the Albuquerque Journal, Mario Garcia, 28, was arrested on multiple charges, including child abuse and aggravated battery, in connection with the incident at Los Altos Skate Park.

Albuquerque police said a man, later identified as Garcia, fired a gun from his vehicle following an argument with a homeless woman who had drunk out of his water bottle, the Journal reported. The bullet struck the boy, who wasn’t involved in the dispute, authorities said.

The boy remains hospitalized and is expected to recover from his injury, according to KOAT.

Police later traced Garcia to a nearby apartment complex and arrested him, the news outlets reported.
