In a Facebook post sharing the story, Victoria Kay said she tossed the bottle on Jan. 5, 2020, from the St. Simons Island pier. Inside the bottle was a watercolor painting and a note saying, “Happy new year.”

Kay said that she created the watercolor specifically to put in the bottle. “I wrote a quick message on the back and I put Saran wrap over it and put mailing tape and then just tossed it out of the pier,” Kay told WVLT.

Two years later, Kay received an email from a woman named Marine Bosc, who said she lives in Brittany, France, and found the bottle while walking her dog near the beach. In her post, Kay said, “This is a beautiful miracle to have found a new friend in Europe with my message and painting in a bottle.”

Kay told WVLT she never imagined the bottle would travel all the way to France, instead imagining it would go to another barrier island or a fisherman would pick it up.
