Mesa shooting: 2 dead, two wounded outside Arizona bar

MESA, Ariz. — Two people were killed and two others were injured after a shooting outside an Arizona bar early Sunday, authorities said.

The shooting comes a day after a gunman opened fire at a Phoenix strip mall, killing a 14-year-old girl and wounding eight other people,

.Just before 2:30 a.m. MST, Mesa police were called to The Lounge Soho after reports of a shooting, KXNV-TV reported.

Three people have been detained in Sunday’s shooting, according to KTVK.

Police discovered the bodies of two men in the parking lot with gunshot wounds, according to the television station. They were pronounced dead at the scene, Mesa police Sgt. Chuck Trapani told reporters.

Two other people were wounded and suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, KSAZ-TV reported. They were taken to an area hospital, according to the television station.

The names and ages of the victims have not been released, KNXV reported. A motive for the shooting is not immediately clear.

“When the first officers arrived on scene they saw a silver car fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed,” Trapani told reporters. “We initiated a pursuit with that vehicle.”

The chase ended a few miles away from the nightclub and the three people in the vehicle were being investigated, according to KSAZ-TV.

“At this point in the investigation their involvement, if any, in the shooting is unknown,” Mesa police said in a statement.
