TOMBALL, Texas — A 5-year-old Texas child was fatally stabbed Sunday, and the girl’s mother has been detained, authorities said.
According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the girl was allegedly cut or stabbed at Spring Creek Park in Tomball, a suburb northwest of Houston, KTRK-TV reported.
Gonzalez said the woman drove her daughter to an area hospital, where the girl was pronounced dead, according to the television station. At a news conference, authorities said the 35-year-old woman told hospital staff members that she had killed her daughter, KHOU-TV reported. Authorities said the girl had wounds on her neck.
The girl was pronounced dead at 12:10 p.m. CDT, according to the television station.
It is unclear whether the girl’s mother will face charges, according to KPRC-TV.
No further information was provided. Gonzalez said an investigation is ongoing.
