GULF BREEZE, Fla. — A Florida man was on his porch Wednesday evening when he was attacked by a black bear, wildlife officials said.

The man was scratched on his chest but was not seriously injured, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials said.

He declined medical attention.

Wildlife officials have set up traps to capture and then euthanize the bear.

When officials arrived at the scene, no bears were present.

“If the target bear is captured, we will humanely kill it, as its behavior is a risk to public safety,” Bekah Nelson, FWC spokeswoman said in an email to The Associated Press. “Non-target bears will be released.”
